Sabang Elementary School

Nurturing Dreams!

HISTORY

The first formal class started in 1936 under Miss Rosalina Almanza. She held  Grade I class in the house of Brigido Usis which was rented by the municipal government. After several months, she left and Mrs. Purificacion del Rosario took her place. Being the only teacher in the barrio, she took pains in registering children through house-to-house visits. The following year, a Grade II class was added as well as a new teacher, Mrs. Socorro C. Sapida. Since there was no classroom yet, they continued holding classes in the rented house of Celedonio Toledo, Cecilio Camanag, and Esguerra family. Pupils who finished primary grades continued their intermediate grades at the Poblacion, Dasmarinas Elementary School.

In 1947, the provincial government allotted two classrooms for the barrio and this was through the effort of Brigido Usis and managed by the civic-spirited barrio carpenters. This was constructed on a 5- hectare of land, Lot No. 3481, purchased by the government on May 1, 1955, with an amount of P2,000 and Certificate No. 11300, Case No. 8843. It was registered on June 9, 1955, in the name of Victor  Tagle. It was a Gonzales Type building, but since only two classes could be accommodated; the other two classes continued in rented houses. The school was named Sabang Barrio School.

Enrollment continued to increase and the provincial government added four more classrooms in 1951. Again, the barrio people helped in the construction of the classroom. They were happy that their children did need not to go to the central school anymore to finish their elementary grades. It was renamed Sabang Elementary School. During those times, many other buildings were constructed like the H.E building, the boys and girls toilet, the school canteen, and the Industrial Arts building. An artesian well was also constructed near the school gate. The school personnel organized the Parent-Teacher Organization and helped them in seeking aid from the municipal and provincial governments in constructing these buildings. The administrative building was next constructed; followed by the Marcos-type building. An active club in the barrio named “Defender’s  Club presided by Mr. Antero Usis raised funds to help in the construction of a Rizal monument on the school site. Later the monument was transferred at the school library for further preservation. The municipal government donated a health center to the barrio and the barrio captain decided to construct it within the school compound with his foresight that it can also be used by the school. Shortage of 3 rooms was a felt need due to increased of school enrollment it was then used as a classroom. The Home Economics building was renovated as well as the school canteen. The stage was likewise reconstructed in 1977 through the help of the PTA president Mr. Teodulo Mendoza. A part of the school fence was also repaired. The sidewalks were all cemented and most of the buildings were repainted under Miss Rustica Campos, the principal. During the opening of the school year 1978-79. A private organization, the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (Cavite Chapter) donated a three-room building to the municipality of  Dasmarinas and due to the lack of classrooms in this barrio, Mayor Narciso Guevarra decided to give it to Sabang to solve the classrooms shortage. During that year also, the barrio got its ten percent share from the government and the barrio captain used the amount in purchasing an electric motor for the school’s water pump.

The school continues to chart and implement plans, programs, and projects geared toward a fully effective and efficient school of the future, whereby producing capable and competitive yet, God-loving and morally upright outputs is the guiding principle.

Great changes took place since then with the outstanding accomplishments and valuable efforts of the different school administrators who were assigned to this school. There is still so much to be done. We just hope with guidance from our Lord Almighty and through the help of all the people concerned in the school development plan, we can attain more improvements and accomplishments. And with all the effort being exerted, Sabang Elementary School is expected to gain positive results in its aim to impart contribution to the DepEd’s goal of working towards quality and excellence.
